Position Overview:
The H62/H63 Neurological Step-down Nursing Unit is dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients with neurological medical and surgical conditions. Our nursing team consists of highly skilled professionals trained in advanced neurological assessment techniques.

Unit Certification:
This unit is recognized as part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center within Cleveland Clinic's esteemed Neurological Institute.

Key Responsibilities:
Our nursing professionals are involved in performing intricate neurological procedures, including:
  • Intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Seizure monitoring
  • Lumbar punctures
  • Central and arterial line placements

This diverse unit emphasizes the importance of early patient mobility, utilizing modern equipment such as ceiling lifts to ensure the safety of both caregivers and patients.

Role Requirements:
A Registered Nurse in this position should be knowledgeable about complex medical histories, innovative surgical interventions, pain management strategies, and comprehensive nutritional support. Responsibilities include:
  • Delivering direct nursing care
  • Monitoring, documenting, and communicating patient conditions as necessary
  • Developing patient care plans
  • Receiving support from experienced preceptors and participating in weekly progress evaluations

Patient Care Coordination:
As a primary coordinator of multidisciplinary care, the RN will:
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans
  • Execute physician and nursing orders
  • Assess and coordinate discharge planning needs with the healthcare team

Maintaining professional growth through ongoing education and clinical study is essential.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be graduates from an accredited nursing program. For those in critical care areas, an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire or within the first year of employment.

Experience:
External candidates should possess a minimum of two years of recent relevant nursing experience. Internal candidates with less than two years may be considered with appropriate approvals.
