We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our Adult Psychiatric team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our care team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and their families.
Responsibilities- Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, you will engage in selected tasks and activities to assist in the assessment, planning, and evaluation of patient needs, treatment, and report deviations as identified to the RN.
- You will obtain and record vital signs as ordered and delegated by the RN, and perform technical duties and selected treatments, procedures, and activities that contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care.
- You will collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team to address patient/family needs, taking into account cultural and/or individual diversity and demonstrating sensitivity to these aspects of care delivery.
- You will effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, and staff, and participate in receiving patient bedside report at the beginning of each shift and throughout the shift as needed.
- You will demonstrate accountability and responsibility in daily performance of role, relocate and rotate to meet patient care needs, and complete non-therapeutic functions under the direction of the MD, PA, APRN, or RN.
- High school diploma or GED, and CNA or other educational equivalent, i.e., Medical Assistant, CPCT, EMT, a student nurse from an accredited program, or LPN.
- CT CNA certification, EMT, a student nurse from an accredited program, or an LPN. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) training must be obtained prior to employment or within one (1) month of hire.
- Successful completion of orientation, and speak and write English proficiently.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. They are also required to stand and walk, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
