Clinical Education Consultant

As a Clinical Education Consultant - Coding and Documentation Expert, you will be responsible for developing and implementing training programs to support accurate and appropriate coding and documentation practices. This role requires a strong understanding of coding and documentation guidelines, as well as the ability to deliver high-quality training to multidisciplinary audiences.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and Implement Training Programs: Create and deliver training programs to support coding and documentation improvement, addressing documentation risk areas identified through local and regional audits.
- Conduct Audits and Remediation: Supervise Data Quality Auditors to ensure audits and remediation are performed accurately and timely, in accordance with regional compliance and Federal and State requirements.
- Provide Expertise and Support: Serve as the local expert on Official Coding and Documentation Guidelines and other internal and external regulatory requirements, providing expertise to Medical Center leadership and Coding and Documentation team.
- Communicate Changes and Guidelines: Communicate changes to federal and state government billing and coding guidelines to medical center leadership, local Coding and Documentation team, and link messages between region and the medical center.
- Conduct Medicare and E/M Audits: Conduct both Medicare and E/M audits on an as-needed basis, ensuring corrective actions are implemented for audit review findings.
- Mentor and Coach: Mentor and coach entry-level trainers as appropriate, providing project management support for local coding and documentation initiatives.
- Experience: Minimum seven (7) years of experience in developing programs and conducting training for diverse audiences with minimal supervision, including coding experience based on Coding Clinic Guidelines for inpatient and outpatient, and experience conducting E/M and Medicare audits.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, health care, public health, finance, business medical records technology, or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
- Certifications: Registered Health Information Technician Certificate, Registered Health Information Administrator Certificate, Professional Coder Certificate, or Certified Coding Specialist.
- Experience with PC Applications: Experience using PC applications such as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and medical center operations or clinical experience.
- Masters Degree: Masters degree in business administration, health care, public health, finance, business medical records technology, or six (6) years of experience in a directly related field.
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality of physicians, patients, patient accounts, and personnel data, with strong interpersonal and excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to be flexible depending upon department and/or physician schedule needs, and ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
