Position Summary:

The Healthcare Assistant Trainee program offers individuals the opportunity to receive both online and hands-on training as a Healthcare Assistant. Candidates who demonstrate excellent customer service, reliability, teamwork, and a strong work ethic may qualify for Educational Support to become a Certified Healthcare Assistant. Depending on availability and individual learning preferences, Educational Support will be provided at NO COST through various avenues:
  1. Classes conducted on-site or at a Regency location.
  2. Local programs offered by community colleges or vocational schools.
  3. An internship option with a waiver to bypass classroom instruction, allowing candidates to complete a skills assessment and practice exam provided by the facility, which qualifies them for testing.

Responsibilities of a Healthcare Assistant:

The Healthcare Assistant works under the supervision of Charge Nurses, providing residents with assistance in daily living activities as outlined in their personalized care plans. Compassion, friendliness, and a genuine desire to help others are essential traits for delivering the expected level of personal care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure resident comfort and safety, including identifying and reporting potential hazards that may lead to accidents or injuries.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established resident care policies and procedures.
  • Assist with daily tasks such as bathing, feeding, dressing, monitoring food intake, grooming, and transferring residents between areas.
  • Document care provided in the Electronic Medical Records system.
  • Measure and record vital signs accurately.
  • Observe and communicate any changes in residents' conditions to nursing staff.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies in good condition.
  • Accompany ambulatory residents or assist those in wheelchairs as necessary.
  • Safely execute physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching, including lifting over 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Respond promptly to call lights, addressing resident needs or seeking assistance from Charge Nurses or other departments as required.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service through appropriate communication in sensitive situations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Nursing Management.
Qualifications:

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience in caregiving is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
