Job Title: Director of Import and Export Operations

At R+L Global Logistics, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Import and Export Operations to join our team. This key role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of import/export operations, ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods for our customers across global borders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the international import/export team, ensuring efficient workflow and high levels of service.
  • Drive operational excellence, enhancing customer satisfaction and maximizing profitability.
  • Create and set strategic goals for the freight forwarding division that align with the company's objectives, focusing on operational efficiency, growth, and profitability.
  • Oversee the execution of all freight forwarding activities, including booking shipments, managing customs clearance, and coordinating transportation.
  • Ensure all import/export activities comply with international trade laws, customs regulations, and company policies/procedures.
  • Develop strategies to enhance customer retention and satisfaction, focusing on timely and cost-effective delivery; mitigate risks related to delays, regulatory changes, and disruptions in the global supply chain.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with logistics service providers, customs brokerage teams, and other key partners.
  • Negotiate contracts and service agreements to secure the best rates and terms for the company and its customers.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as shipping costs, delivery times, and client satisfaction metrics; provide regular financial and operational reports to senior leadership.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, promoting innovation in freight forwarding processes and customer service.
  • Foster a positive work environment; mentoring, coaching, individual and team accountability, and developing team members to provide opportunities for growth; developing current and future leaders for the organization.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Business or similar field of study with emphasis in: International Business, Logistics/Supply Chain Management, or Transportation preferred.
  • 8+ years' experience in International Freight Forwarding; Imports/Exports, Air/Ocean, Sales, and Operations.
  • 5+ years' experience in a supervisory or management role leading high-performance teams.
  • Previous experience using freight management software; Cargowise One and McLeod a plus.
  • Deep understanding of international trade laws, customs compliance, and global shipping regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence, guide, and inspire others to reach their potential and achieve individual, team, and company goals and objectives.
  • Ability to develop and implement processes, procedures, and business solutions for sales and operations continuous improvement.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities, meet deadlines, work well under pressure, and maintain discretion on confidential matters while maintaining a positive attitude and providing unmatched customer service.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to meet with sales leaders, team members, and high-level prospects and customers.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
