Role Summary:

INTRODUCTION:

We are seeking a Chief Medical Officer for our Anesthesia Services division, which operates under Hospital-Based Physician Services (HBP). This position is based out of the HCA Healthcare Brentwood office and requires residency in the Nashville area, along with approximately 50% travel. The CMO will report directly to the President of Anesthesia Services.

ROLE SUMMARY:
The Chief Medical Officer for Anesthesia Services is a pivotal member of the senior executive team, responsible for shaping and directing clinical and quality initiatives, outcomes, and compliance within the organization.

As the leader of quality initiatives and clinical services in Anesthesia, the CMO will act as the physician leader in the formulation, execution, and oversight of quality and operational strategies to enhance patient care. This individual will collaborate with various subject matter experts, both internally and externally, to identify best practices that support strategic execution. The CMO will also play a crucial role in coordinating with HCA's Clinical Services Group, Strategic Resources Group, Quality Department, Clinical Informatics, and other internal initiatives that may intersect with clinical efforts.

In partnership with Group, Division, and facility administrative leadership, as well as clinical leadership, this individual will be expected to provide executive-level guidance, consultation, and direction to HCA leaders and other company officers regarding Anesthesia services.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is required.
  • A minimum of ten years' experience in a Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director, or similar role within a complex healthcare system, with a focus on quality and performance improvement in the service line. Formal management training and experience in Quality and Resource Management in healthcare is preferred.
  • A distinguished medical practice history as validated by peers, with at least 10 years of clinical practice required.
  • Capability to develop and implement service line dashboards and scorecards aligned with established quality metrics.
  • Ability to create clinical and process-focused pathways to enhance patient care, utilization, and throughput.
  • Proficiency in defining a peer review work stream with educational feedback for clinicians.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Regularly engages with Division and facility administration, Division medical directors, and key stakeholders to provide updates on program performance and to enhance program integration by addressing clinical needs and goals for the Anesthesia service line.
  • Experience with quality reporting systems.
  • Understanding of hospital and physician compensation models.
  • Experience in designing clinical processes and key performance indicators.
  • Service-oriented approach with business partners.
  • Proven success in navigating a matrixed environment where influence is paramount.
  • Aptitude for developing and maintaining relationships with Group Presidents, HCA Physician Services Group (PSG) President, Group Vice Presidents, Division Presidents, CFOs, CMOs, and Hospital CEOs, CFOs, CMOs, and COOs.
  • Collaboration with Compliance, Human Resources, Business Development, and Legal Operations Counsel on all engagements, as necessary.
