Role Summary:
INTRODUCTION:HCA Healthcare stands as a prominent entity in the healthcare sector, operating over 188 hospitals and more than 2,300 care facilities across 21 states and the UK. We are seeking a Chief Medical Officer for our Anesthesia Services division, which is part of Hospital-Based Physician Services (HBP). This position is primarily based in the HCA Healthcare Brentwood office, with a requirement for residency in the Nashville area and approximately 50% travel. The CMO will report directly to the President of Anesthesia Services.
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Chief Medical Officer for Anesthesia Services is a vital member of the senior executive team, responsible for defining and steering the clinical and quality initiatives, outcomes, and compliance within the organization.
As the leader of quality initiatives and clinical services in Anesthesia, the CMO will act as the physician leader in crafting, executing, and overseeing quality and operational strategies essential for patient care. This individual will collaborate with various subject matter experts, both internally and externally, to identify best practices that support strategic execution. The CMO will also play a crucial role in liaising with HCA's Clinical Services Group, Strategic Resources Group, Quality Department, Clinical Informatics, and other internal initiatives that may intersect with this effort.
In partnership with Group, Division, and facility administrative leadership as well as clinical leadership, this individual will be expected to provide executive-level guidance, consultation, and direction to HCA leaders and other company officers concerning Anesthesia services.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) is required.
- A minimum of ten years' experience in a Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director, or similar role within a complex healthcare system, with a focus on quality and performance improvement in the service line. Formal management training and experience in Quality and Resource Management in healthcare are preferred.
- Proven medical practice history as validated by peers, with at least 10 years of clinical practice required.
- Capability to develop and implement service line dashboards and scorecards aligned with established quality metrics.
- Ability to create clinical and process-focused pathways to enhance patient care, utilization, and throughput.
- Experience in defining a peer review process with educational feedback for clinicians.
- Regular engagement with Division and facility administration, Division medical directors, and key stakeholders to provide updates on program performance and enhance program integration by addressing clinical needs and goals for the Anesthesia service line.
- Familiarity with quality reporting systems.
- Understanding of hospital and physician compensation models.
- Experience in designing clinical processes and key performance indicators.
- Service-oriented approach with business partners.
- Demonstrated success in navigating a matrixed environment where influence prevails over authority.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with Group Presidents, HCA Physician Services Group (PSG) President, Group Vice Presidents, Division Presidents, CFOs, CMOs, and Hospital CEOs, CFOs, CMOs, and COOs.
- Collaboration with Compliance, Human Resources, Business Development, and Legal Operations Counsel on all engagements, as necessary.
