Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled field service engineer to maintain and support innovative protein analysis instruments. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in a field team, ensuring high-quality service and support for our clients across North America. This position is primarily focused on the Western US and Western Canada, with a significant emphasis on California, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado, along with occasional travel to other regions.

Compensation: Salary range is $95,000 - $115,000, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer and Instrument Support: Provide both onsite and remote assistance to troubleshoot and repair complex electro-mechanical scientific instruments in laboratory settings. Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure timely resolution and follow-up. Basic laboratory skills are essential for sample preparation and adherence to service protocols, including GMP documentation.
  • Scheduling and Administrative Duties: Operate independently with minimal supervision. Manage customer appointments and create detailed technical documentation as needed. Ensure timely submission of service reports, accurate data entry into CRM systems, and maintenance of personal inventory for efficient repairs and support.
  • Collaboration with Sales and Technical Teams: Work closely with the sales team to address pre and post-sales inquiries. Collaborate with field applications and technical support teams to resolve complex customer issues effectively.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and transport tools, parts, and instruments weighing up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline, with a minimum of 3 years of field service experience in the life sciences, biotech, or medical sectors, or at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably with laboratory exposure.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, fluidic, pneumatic, and electronic equipment.
  • Computer Proficiency: Strong skills in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Salesforce.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Professional demeanor and strong brand representation.
  • Familiarity with GMP documentation practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving abilities, and effective time management.
  • Resourceful and adaptable, capable of working independently in dynamic environments.
  • Basic laboratory skills, including experience in BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.

Working Conditions:

  • Remote work options available from the greater San Francisco/San Jose area.
  • Up to 50% overnight travel within the primary coverage area, with some travel outside this region.
