The Lead Property Accountant role will report to the Property Accounting Manager and will engage in daily accounting tasks to generate monthly GAAP financial reports.

This position will collaborate closely with Property Managers, fellow Lead Property Accountants, Corporate Accounting staff, and external accounting teams to address issues, rectify discrepancies, and provide training as needed.

This role necessitates a hybrid work model, requiring the employee to be present onsite several days a week, complemented by remote work based on project demands.


The ideal candidate possesses:
  • Proven experience in reviewing or preparing financial statements.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects daily for various clients, with a preference for those in commercial real estate.
  • A proactive approach to refining existing procedures to enhance structure and efficiency.
  • A desire to thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; degrees in accounting or finance and CPA certification are preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years in general ledger accounting or at least 3 years in public accounting, with preferred experience in commercial real estate or property management.
  • At least 2 years of experience with MRI accounting software or similar platforms.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced understanding of GAAP, monthly closing processes, and cash management.
  • Exceptional ability to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships within the accounting team and across the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to multitask and prioritize while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the accounting team and other organizational members.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external clients, both written and verbal.
  • Good judgment and discretion regarding confidential matters.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Executing full-cycle accounting duties for a diverse portfolio of commercial properties, including office and industrial.
  • Facilitating and completing monthly journal entries and closing procedures promptly.
  • Preparing monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Analyzing revenues and expenses to ensure accurate classification and addressing variances.
  • Completing monthly bank and escrow reconciliations.
  • Managing monthly fixed asset and intangible additions and disposals, along with recording depreciation and amortization.
  • Supporting third-party accounts receivable and lease accounting teams.
  • Collaborating with Property Managers to prepare quarterly capital reconciliations.
  • Reviewing annual CAM reconciliations and ensuring timely billing with Property Managers.
  • Assisting Property Managers with the annual reforecast and budgeting process.
  • Interacting with third-party accountants to review monthly reporting packages and distribution analyses.
  • Assisting auditors and tax preparers with necessary reports and returns.
  • Proactively enhancing processes, efficiencies, and communication.

Compensation:
The starting salary for this position is an estimate based on qualifications, operational needs, and other legally permissible considerations. Actual salaries may vary and could be above or below the stated range based on factors such as location, education, experience, internal pay alignment, and performance.

This role is also eligible for a merit-based annual bonus program, health, vision, and dental insurance plans, long and short-term disability, a 401K plan, and paid time off.
