Lead Patient Access Control Specialist

Job Purpose:
The Senior Patient Access Control Specialist is tasked with the registration of both inpatient and outpatient surgical patients. This role also encompasses the handling and completion of Direct Admit postings from various healthcare providers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Registers and admits incoming patients (elective, emergency, surgical outpatients) ensuring all necessary documentation is complete, including signed Conditions of Admission forms, copies of insurance cards, and claim forms obtained from patients.
2. Provides copies of patient registrations to residents.
3. Assigns beds for all incoming elective and emergency patients based on stated preferences whenever feasible, ensuring proper accommodation codes are utilized to address private versus semi-private issues, while maintaining satisfaction for both patients and physicians.
4. Responsible for bed assignments for patients transitioning from ICU or between floors.
5. Ensures charge plates are accurately noted and updates the bed board accordingly.
6. Performs various tasks such as supplying residents with copies of admission documents reflecting room assignments, providing patient information to physician offices, and timely ordering of supplies.
7. Manages the release of patients who have passed away, ensuring that no patients are collected by funeral homes without the proper releases.
8. Accepts physician postings and completes the OR schedule, documenting patient names, contact numbers, and insurance details. Prepares the initiation of pre-admit forms.
Compliance:
Handles and discloses patients' protected health information (PHI) in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 Year of experience in Hospital Admitting preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work beyond standard hours when necessary.
- Exceptional customer service skills, including negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines amidst frequent interruptions.
Working Conditions:
Ability to work outside of normal business hours as required.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may need to move around the work area, sit, perform manual tasks, and operate office equipment such as computers and telephones. This role involves repetitive hand movements for typing and writing, as well as occasional lifting of light objects (up to 15 pounds).
Mental Demands:
The employee must be capable of following directions, collaborating with colleagues, and managing stress effectively.
Work Environment:
This position is based in a well-lit and ventilated office setting, subject to frequent interruptions. Minimal exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials is expected. The employee may interact with patients, family members, and visitors in various emotional states. Adherence to Hospital Safety Standards is essential.
