Position Overview:


The Healthcare Financial Consultant plays a pivotal role in addressing billing and insurance inquiries across various healthcare facilities, including acute care centers and outpatient clinics.


This position entails a thorough examination of patient financial records and effective communication with patients or their representatives regarding third-party reimbursement options and any patient liabilities for medical services.

The consultant will conduct comprehensive social and financial evaluations, directing patients without insurance or those eligible for financial aid to appropriate medical eligibility organizations for potential support through government healthcare initiatives.

Additionally, the role involves securing payments or establishing payment arrangements prior to service delivery, during patient admission, or throughout the discharge process.

Qualifications:

Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years in roles related to registration, insurance verification, financial counseling, or patient accounting is required.

At least 1 year of experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is necessary.

Licensure/Certification:
Notary Public Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Essential Skills:
Candidates should possess traits such as patience, empathy, and compassion. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. The ability to communicate clearly and pleasantly over the phone is required. Candidates must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be willing to collaborate within a team. Skills in balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks are crucial. The ability to work under pressure and engage with diverse individuals in various roles is necessary. Flexibility and effective listening skills are important. Proficiency in navigating a computer while on the phone is expected. Candidates should demonstrate advanced knowledge of billing and finance processes, registration, insurance verification, managed care, and government payors. Basic accounting knowledge and familiarity with medical terminology and claims are essential. Candidates should exhibit strong customer service skills, problem-solving abilities, and relationship-building capabilities. A typing speed of at least 40 words per minute is required. Excellent analytical skills are necessary, and proficiency in epic and legacy practice management systems is expected upon successful completion of all related competencies. Willingness to travel to multiple facilities as needed is required.

Preferred Skills:

A comprehensive understanding of Federal and State regulations regarding charity care, agency assistance, and debt collection is preferred.

Experience with EPIC software is advantageous.
