Key Responsibilities:

Oversees and guides direct care personnel (C.N.A.) in executing health-related responsibilities. Provides education and counseling as necessary. Conducts staff meetings and delivers in-service training as required. Collaborates with Nursing Supervisor/Unit Managers on pertinent issues.

Conducts daily assessments of high-risk residents or those with wounds in accordance with facility protocols, including turning and repositioning as per established standards.

Serves as Unit Manager when necessary and may be called upon to cover the Assisted Living Unit or any Nursing Unit. Observes and evaluates the physical and emotional well-being of all residents, taking appropriate actions as needed. Assesses residents for medical and specialist requirements, consulting with physicians, recording, and implementing orders as necessary.

Completes necessary documentation associated with the role, including but not limited to incident reports, charting, referrals, assessments, admissions, and reports to incoming staff. Documents resident behaviors and health changes through acute care nurse's notes and shift change reports.

Verifies medication accuracy with the pharmacy and addresses any discrepancies. Prepares and administers medications and treatments following established procedures. Responsible for the management of medications and equipment within the unit, ensuring a clean and organized work environment.

Monitors the inventory of essential supplies for nursing care and communicates needs to Central Supply or Nursing Supervisors. Ensures that the medication refrigerator is stocked with current and in-date medications. Assists with in-house activities as nursing schedules allow, informing staff when ill residents are unable to participate in activities and when they can resume.

Coordinates with activity staff as necessary and ensures that proper safety protocols for residents and staff are adhered to. Monitors residents' hygiene and grooming, reporting any issues to the Unit Manager or Nursing Supervisor. Oversees the cleanliness and functionality of resident items such as dentures, glasses, and hearing aids, reporting required repairs to the appropriate personnel.


Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess a current Licensed Practical Nursing license or Registered Nurse license in the state of Virginia.


Additional Considerations:

CPR certification is required upon hire or must be obtained.
