Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Traffic Sign Technician I to join our team at Bexar County, TX. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and replacement of traffic control devices, ensuring the safety and efficiency of our roadways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Removes, replaces, and installs traffic control devices and signs in accordance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD)
  • Repairs and maintains traffic control equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Maintains traffic control vehicle supplies and equipment for daily work schedules
  • Assists Traffic Sign Technician II's in the maintenance and repair of equipment and tools
  • Paints stripes on roads and crosswalks to ensure clear visibility
  • Assists Traffic Control Fabricator II with silk screening and assembling signs
  • Maintains daily worksheets of tasks performed to track progress and efficiency
Requirements
  • Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate and one (1) year of general maintenance or mechanical experience
  • Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) guidelines and basic electrical and mechanical operations
  • Skill in the operation of basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, knowledge of safety standards and practices, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, and the general public
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
  • Required to be on-call 24-hours a day
Working Conditions and Physical Environment
  • Working conditions are primarily outdoors
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperature variations, dirt, dust, fumes, vapor, smoke, unpleasant odors, hazardous chemicals, overhead power lines, loud noises, insect and/or animal bites
  • Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, occasionally moves objects weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Will frequently communicate with co-workers; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Constantly positions self to perform essential functions
  • Constantly operates tools and equipment
