Ophthalmology Support Specialist

Position Overview:
The Ophthalmology Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality technical assistance within the Ophthalmology Clinics, working closely with both Faculty and Residents to enhance patient care and streamline clinic operations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced technical support to Ophthalmology Clinics.
- Assist in various services aimed at facilitating patient care.
- Collaborate effectively with medical professionals to ensure efficient clinic functioning.

Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is mandatory.
- Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years in a similar role, such as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician.
- Certifications: JCAHPO (Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology) Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant is required upon hire. Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician must be obtained within one year of employment. Consideration for current certifications in related fields may be made on a case-by-case basis, including but not limited to optometry or surgical technology.

Additional Requirements:
- Current CPR Certification is essential.

Verification Process:
All credentials will be verified through University Hospital's designated Background Check Company, including JCAHPO Ophthalmic Technician Certification and CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Physical Requirements:
- The role necessitates standing or walking for approximately 2/3 of the time, with sitting for about 1/3 of the time.
- Frequent use of hands for handling or feeling is required, along with reaching with hands and arms about 1/3 of the time.
- The position may involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and talking or hearing for over 2/3 of the time.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally is necessary. Vision requirements include clear sight at 20 inches or less and at 20 feet.

Work Environment:
- The work setting is characterized by moderate noise levels, including typical office sounds such as light traffic and telephones.
- There is potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment.
