Position Overview: The Infrastructure Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in the effective setup, configuration, operation, and upkeep of systems hardware and software, along with the associated infrastructure. This role necessitates ongoing technical research and development to foster continuous innovation. The Infrastructure Systems Engineer guarantees that system hardware, operating systems, software, and related protocols align with organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners to carry out their business functions efficiently.

The responsibilities of this position encompass assessing needs, benefits, and technical strategies; engaging in research and development throughout the project lifecycle; conducting technical analysis and design; and assisting operations and applications teams in executing, testing, and deploying solutions.

The Infrastructure Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing data infrastructure, managing databases, overseeing data warehousing, deploying SQL servers, and enhancing data pipelines within both Windows and Linux server environments. Duties within these systems include engineering and provisioning, operational support, maintenance, and research and development to ensure consistent system uptime and ongoing innovation. This role involves addressing a variety of challenges and requires situational assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing engineering solutions for diverse projects and operational requirements.
  • Setting up new servers or rebuilding existing ones, configuring hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in line with standards and project/operational needs.
  • Installing and configuring application systems that support infrastructure and operations.
  • Creating and maintaining installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contributing to and upholding system standards.
  • Monitoring systems, ensuring the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and confirming the completion of scheduled tasks such as backups.
  • Conducting regular security monitoring to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Executing backup and restore operations, ensuring all necessary file systems and system data are successfully backed up and that recovery media is created and stored appropriately.
  • Providing Tier III support as requested by various stakeholders, investigating and troubleshooting issues.
  • Repairing and recovering from hardware or software failures, coordinating and communicating with affected parties.
  • Applying operating system, database server, and application patches and upgrades regularly, and configuring or adding new services as needed.
  • Maintaining operational documentation, configuration diagrams, and other procedures.
  • Conducting periodic performance reporting to assist in capacity planning.
  • Engaging in ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Interpreting and discussing information with others, which may involve unfamiliar terminology or concepts; regularly providing advice and recommending actions for complex issues.
  • Offering occasional guidance, some of which may be technical.
  • Implementing processes and systems to monitor data quality.
  • Analyzing and organizing raw data.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Information Systems.

Essential Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, and MySQL.
  • Experience with Linux, including but not limited to CentOS and Debian distributions.
  • Familiarity with AWS architectures and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft O365, Teams, SharePoint, and Skype for Business.
  • Understanding of physical storage technologies, including Fiber Channel and iSCSI SAN, and NAS.
  • Expertise in Windows Server and its associated features and roles, including IIS, DHCP, DNS, File/Print, Group Policy, and Active Directory.
  • Familiarity with switching and routing, including firewalls, VLANs, BGP, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, including Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware ESXi/vCenter.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery processes, including Avamar.
