Clinical Nutrition Specialist

Employment Type: PRN

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday

Compensation: $35 - $45 per hour

Location: Remote and/or Hybrid options available

Role Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Clinical Nutrition Specialist is to deliver medical nutrition therapy tailored to patient objectives and clinical conditions. This role also involves providing ongoing consultation to the nutrition and foodservice director through regular nutrition quality assurance evaluations in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough nutrition assessments for all patients utilizing the Nutrition Care Process (assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, evaluation) and develop personalized nutrition plans that respect age-specific populations and cultural needs.
  • Perform Nutrition-Focused Physical Examinations and conduct nutrition interviews regularly to assess the suitability of therapeutic diets.
  • Develop and review enteral and parenteral nutrition prescriptions, providing recommendations as necessary.
  • Assess the effectiveness of nutrition interventions and modify them as clinically required to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Engage in facility Nutrition At Risk (NAR) meetings to evaluate individuals at higher risk who require regular interdisciplinary team assessments.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain regular communication with the interdisciplinary team through meetings and other preferred communication methods. Organize and announce departmental meeting schedules as needed.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as necessary documentation, reports, and nutrition quality assurance audits to ensure compliance with dietary department policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the food service director to ensure that food service staff adhere to safe and sanitary practices while providing meals as prescribed.
  • Deliver nutrition-related training sessions as requested.
  • Review and approve facility menus bi-annually to ensure nutritional adequacy in line with dietary guidelines, making substitutions as necessary.
  • Commit to maintaining confidentiality regarding user ID codes and passwords for accessing resident information and report any suspected violations to the Supervisor.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of residents' protected health information and report any suspected breaches to the Administrator.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols established at each facility.

Qualifications:

Education and Credentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field, along with completion of an accredited dietetic internship.
  • Current Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and ongoing continuing education.

Experience/Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of one year of experience in clinical dietetics within a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively to meet clinical expectations, work independently, and make informed decisions with minimal supervision.
  • A reliable mode of transportation is required to reach various facilities under different weather conditions.
