About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Master Carpenter to join our team at the University of California, Irvine. As a key member of our Production Studio, you will be responsible for the construction, installation, and maintenance of stage scenery, stage machinery, and other technical aspects of our productions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Technical Director in the planning and execution of productions, including the construction and installation of stage scenery, stage machinery, and other technical elements.
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure that all technical aspects of the production are completed to a high standard.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of technical expertise in scenic construction, stage machinery, and other technical areas.
  • Train and supervise student crews in the safe and efficient use of technical equipment and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in scenic construction, stage machinery, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of scenic construction techniques, including the use of various materials and tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Physical stamina to work in a fast-paced environment and lift heavy objects.
Working Conditions

The Master Carpenter will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and changing priorities. The position requires the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and students.
