HITT Contracting is in search of a Director of Sustainable Construction to oversee the daily operations of the Sustainable Construction team. This role is crucial in ensuring that both HITT as an organization and its projects adhere to principles of environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

The Director will foster a culture of sustainability within HITT, optimizing processes and programs throughout the company. Recognized as a subject matter expert, the Director will confidently lead and educate both internal and external stakeholders. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Project Solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct oversight to HITT's Sustainability Managers and Associates, guiding them in their daily project certification tasks to maintain an industry-leading Sustainability Department.
  • Formulate and execute sustainable strategies, while educating team members on sustainable construction program requirements and best practices for effective project execution.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant sustainability regulations, codes, and standards established by local authorities, industry organizations, and certification programs.
  • Lead the Sustainability team in gathering, analyzing, and presenting pertinent sustainability data and trends to support decision-making by HITT leadership.
  • Chair internal committees aimed at developing programs that promote HITT's sustainability culture and vision.
  • Take a proactive role in identifying best practices for managing the supply chain and material sourcing, as well as minimizing waste generation throughout the construction process.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant regulatory agencies, industry groups, and committees to ensure HITT remains at the forefront of sustainability and compliance.
  • Engage and cultivate relationships with sustainability-focused subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, designers, and clients to further shared objectives.
  • Collaborate nationally with HITT's business units to ensure the company is top-of-mind for clients navigating increasing sustainability demands.
  • Oversee, monitor, and ensure the timely achievement of annual corporate sustainability objectives.

Qualifications

  • Current LEED AP BD&C or ID&C accreditation.
  • 10-12 years of experience in the construction sector, with a substantial focus on leading sustainable construction practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of LEED v4 and v5, WELL, LBC, Net Zero Energy, and other third-party green building rating systems.
  • Experience in developing and implementing sustainable strategies aimed at reducing environmental impact, enhancing resource efficiency, and promoting social responsibility, along with the ability to effectively communicate these strategies to all stakeholders, including HITT leadership and clients.
  • Innovative thinking, consistently elevating the standards of sustainable business operations, and ensuring the sustainable certification of projects for clients and communities.
  • A high level of self-awareness, coupled with a humble and approachable leadership style, focused on continuous personal, team, and organizational growth.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to embrace change, with a quick learning curve for new processes and technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of managing and tracking detailed data and documentation.
  • Demonstrated responsiveness, accountability, and effective follow-up practices.
