POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maritime Operations Specialist is responsible for inspecting vessels and associated equipment prior to voyages to ensure safe and efficient operations in compliance with regulations and company policies. Utilizing navigational tools, weather forecasts, and tide/current predictions, this role ensures the safety of the vessel and crew. The specialist operates the vessel in various water bodies as directed and collaborates with supervisors to adapt plans based on environmental conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deploys, tows, and anchors containment boom and spill response equipment as necessary.
- Ensures all job-related equipment is maintained in optimal working condition.
- Documents and updates vessel logs and inspections.
- Provides clear guidance to crew members and passengers to ensure safety during navigational challenges.
- Conducts onboard safety drills and training in seamanship and navigation.
- Completes necessary paperwork in accordance with procedures and regulations.
- May perform additional tasks as directed by supervisors.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and procedures to ensure effective safety measures. A background in maritime operations, navigation, and maintenance of vessels is essential. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently are critical.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2-5 years of experience in the maritime industry.
- State Boater Safety Card and/or USCG License Rating.
- Proven ability to operate large vessels (minimum 32') safely.
- Valid Driver's License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
- May require additional certifications such as CPR/First Aid and Marine Crane Operator Certification.
