SUMMARY:
The Nutritional Services Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of healthy meals in accordance with USDA/CACFP guidelines. This position collaborates with the Nutrition Manager and Health Manager to develop menus and promote nutritious eating habits.

Additionally, the role may involve assisting with the completion of necessary documentation to comply with federal food program regulations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform duties in alignment with HS Performance Standards, Content Area Plans, Vermont Child Care Licensing Regulations, NAEYC, and NEKCA Standard of Conduct.
  • Engage in NEKCA Performance Evaluations, Professional Development Self-Assessment, and collaborate with supervisors on an Individualized Professional Development Plan.
  • Recognize signs of child abuse and neglect, adhering to Vermont Mandated Reporter Law and program Child Protection Protocol.
  • Participate in center staff meetings, monthly content area meetings, pre-service, and in-services, integrating relevant knowledge and skills into practice.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
N/A, this position does not supervise any staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in preparing and displaying weekly menus at the center.
  • Deliver breakfast and lunch at scheduled times for enrolled children, staff, and adults, and help with family-style serving.
  • Ensure meals are spaced appropriately, with at least 2.5 hours between servings.
  • Support children during mealtime as needed.
  • Help maintain cleanliness of dishes, utensils, and dining areas to uphold health and safety standards.
  • Actively engage in program and family/child staffing as requested.
  • Prepare and serve snacks for children, parents/guardians, staff, and community members during playgroups as per center plans.
  • Plan and prepare afternoon snacks for children and staff in full-day programs.
  • Complete daily paperwork including Food Services Provider's Daily Attendance, Meal Count Sheet, and CACFP Weekly Meal Record, submitting by month-end.
  • Submit Food Inventory paperwork quarterly and complete equipment inventory by month-end in May.
  • Follow sanitation requirements as per program and Early Childhood Program Licensing Regulations, completing the Monthly Sanitation Checklist.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness by sweeping and mopping floors daily.
  • Provide monthly menus to parents/guardians detailing daily offerings.
  • Coordinate with classroom staff to involve children in meal preparation and service on a rotating basis.
  • Plan and execute nutrition education activities with program staff for classroom and Early Head Start families in line with the program Nutrition Plan.
  • Facilitate breaks for classroom staff according to center plans.
  • Conduct training for kitchen volunteers/substitutes to ensure understanding of food service routines and sanitation requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the compost system.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents/guardians.
  • Collaborate with the center team to document non-federal share contributions.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
  • GED or High School Diploma.
2 years relevant experience.
Core Competencies:
  • Reliable transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.

  • Effective teamwork skills.
Physical Exam/TB Screening Background Checks:
Employees in this role must undergo a background check in accordance with NEKCA policy, which may include verification of education, employment history, and criminal records.

Transportation Requirements:
This position requires employees to possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation.
