Job Title: Prototype Assistant

Join Versa Designed Surfaces as a skilled Prototype Assistant and contribute to the creation of innovative designs and products. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for coordinating and performing duties associated with inks and print/tint color matching procedures, as well as digital processes to produce samples in the development phase of new projects, concepts, or designs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and perform duties associated with inks and print/tint color matching procedures, as well as digital processes to produce samples in the development phase of new projects, concepts, or designs.
  • Formulate, match, or mix inks through the application of color tinting techniques to reproduce the look and appearance of samples provided by clients or designers.
  • Communicate and take direction from designers and supervisors, and accept constructive criticism to acquire essential knowledge about the designing and creative process used in the industry.
  • Examine cylinders and/or silkscreens to detect flaws in stencils or foreign particles prior to production of samples, and pull proofs in print cylinders or silkscreens to check for ink coverage, density, alignment, and image registration.
  • Inspect proofs or samples for quality of color and print, and adjust (if necessary) after feedback from designers or customers is provided.
  • Assist in completing sampling or trialing of gravure cylinders on a printing press, and create or update project folders according to standard process.
  • Clean stations and/or cylinders after each run to minimize contamination of inks due to residual byproduct, and follow operational, safety, and quality control procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and uncluttered workspace, and aid in maintaining the order of silkscreen(s) tools and Strike-Offs in their designated storage locations.
  • Familiar with the use of standard printing tools and supplies, and knowledge of standard office software programs, including design software programs such as Photoshop.
Requirements:
  • Associates of Arts Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Interior Design, or related field, and 1+ year of experience in a graphic or printing environment, or Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, Interior Design, or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of software design tools, such as Photoshop, Corel Suite, Flexo, AutoCAD, and MS Visual Studio, as well as intermediate knowledge of standard office productivity tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles, and color management experience is a preferred but not required.
