Unit Overview

This department features twenty-five operating rooms that conduct a wide range of surgical procedures across various specialties, including Trauma and Open-Heart Surgery Programs. The facility operates around the clock, providing both elective and emergency surgical services every day of the week. Staff may be required to participate in rotating call, holiday, and weekend shifts.

Role Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist II will play a critical role in preparing and maintaining the surgical environment, ensuring the proper handling of instruments during procedures, upholding the sterile field, and adapting to dynamic conditions throughout surgical operations. This position requires a thorough understanding of surgical protocols and may involve mentoring new staff as necessary.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent education is required.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent training (military experience included) is necessary; not all programs mandate an associate degree, or alternatively, one year of relevant experience is acceptable.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Surgical Technologist is preferred (clinical rotations count as experience).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Work Environment

This position is full-time, with variable hours and days, including potential weekend shifts.
