Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Grants and Contracts Specialist to join our team at the University of Texas at Austin. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting faculty, researchers, and principal investigators with research proposals, including budget preparation, budget justifications, and other non-technical documents for proposal submission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with research proposal development, including budget preparation and justification
  • Review proposal documents for required formatting and content inclusion
  • Coordinate with sub-award organizations to ensure receipt of required documents on time
  • Monitor account balances and reconcile research accounts monthly
  • Distribute financial reports as needed to principal investigators
  • Analyze and interpret budgetary financial data related to sponsored research
  • Advise faculty on strategic and appropriate fund use
  • Gather financial and non-technical report components in coordination with PI
  • Process post-award modifications, credit authorizations, and cost transfers
  • Process invoices, reimbursements, and travel authorization requests
  • Collaborate with PIs, department staff, and external stakeholders to resolve research administration issues
  • Provide assignment details for sponsor-funded student and staff positions
  • Process summer salary in Workday for Principal Investigators
  • Participate in professional development to remain current with UT, local, state, and federal guidelines
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of research administration and a ability to work independently with minimal supervision. A bachelor's degree in a related field and 2+ years of experience in research administration are required.
