Job Purpose
The Distribution Engineer within DPAM will formulate recommendations for necessary modifications and enhancements to sub-transmission and distribution infrastructures. This role aims to bolster system resilience against adverse weather conditions and modernize the grid to meet projected capacity demands while enhancing customer service quality in a cost-effective manner that optimizes existing resources and minimizes environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities
This position encompasses a variety of tasks aimed at addressing customer technical requirements. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting regional customer operations with the technical management of the distribution network.
  • Leading initiatives to monitor regional distribution reliability and advocating for improvements.
  • Conducting customer and distributed generation studies, along with interconnection compliance verification engineering activities, particularly for the western division of New York.
  • Providing support to various departments within National Grid, including Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Substation Engineering, Distribution Design, Smart Grid, and New Energy Solutions.
  • Coordinating with Underground Cable and Civil Construction Operations to ensure safe engineering practices.

This role must balance customer requests with the imperative of maintaining safety and reliability for all stakeholders.

Supervisory/Interpersonal Experience Required
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to lead and manage project teams or virtual teams to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications
Candidates should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with industry practices, standards, and regulations.
  • Awareness of current trends and legislative developments within the sector.
  • Knowledge of National Grid's operations, policies, and practices is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working in a Project Management team environment.
  • The ability to adapt communication styles to suit various audiences.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and performance improvement.
