Job Purpose
The Distribution Engineer will be responsible for formulating recommendations for modifications and enhancements to sub-transmission and distribution infrastructure. This role aims to bolster system resilience against adverse weather conditions and modernize the grid to meet anticipated capacity demands and improve customer service quality, all while optimizing existing resources and minimizing environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities
This position encompasses a variety of tasks aimed at fulfilling customer technical requirements. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting regional customer operations with the technical management of the distribution network.
  • Leading initiatives to monitor regional distribution reliability and promoting strategies for improvement.
  • Conducting customer and distributed generation studies, along with interconnection compliance verification, specifically for the western division of New York.
  • Providing support to various departments within National Grid, including Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Substation Engineering, Distribution Design, and Smart Grid & New Energy Solutions.
  • Coordinating with Underground Cable and Civil Construction Operations to ensure safe engineering practices.

While addressing customer requests, this role prioritizes the safety and reliability of services for all stakeholders. The engineer will represent the company in industry and regulatory working groups as needed, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.

Supervisory/Interpersonal Experience Required
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to lead and manage project teams or virtual teams effectively to achieve organizational objectives.

Qualifications
Candidates should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of industry practices, standards, and regulations.
  • Awareness of current trends and legislative developments within the energy sector.
  • Familiarity with National Grid's operations, policies, and practices is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working in a Project Management team environment.
  • The ability to adapt communication styles to suit different audiences.
  • A proactive approach to building and maintaining professional relationships beyond standard business contacts.

The candidate should take ownership of resolving issues promptly and effectively, ensuring customer expectations are met throughout engineering project delivery. Additionally, they should be open to change and willing to adjust perspectives based on new information.
