Key Responsibilities:
  • Program and Staff Development:
    • Supervise staff, monitoring and assessing performance of group and individual counseling and case management functions.
    • Prepare annual evaluations and develop plans for improved performance with staff.
    • Plan, structure, facilitate, and maintain group focus on recovery and skill acquisition.
    • Establish and maintain communication with referral sources and other agencies and treatment providers.
    • Monitor staff productivity and standard achievement.
    • Monitor budget, manage budget, and participate in budget development.
    • Monitor staff utilization of electronic health records for service delivery documentation and ensure compliance with state regulatory requirements.
  • Quality Improvement:
    • Monitor the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date case records consistent with agency and funding source requirements.
    • Utilize supervision and training as an opportunity for enhancing professional competence.
    • Participate in Quality Improvement activities, evaluating program effectiveness and outcomes.
    • Prepare reports such as rosters, statistics, and treatment recommendation letters to outside agencies.
  • Direct Services:
    • Facilitate group sessions when needed and maintain a small case load when required.
    • Conduct and ensure all staff complete thorough initial assessments utilizing electronic health records.
    • Support clients' strengths and resources, affirming reality testing, contact with experience, judgment, and connection with support systems, including family, friends, and community resources.
    • Involves and engages family and significant others in the recovery process and assists them in understanding the illness, coping with it, and managing its effects.
    • Consults with other service providers and referring entities and documents their participation in the recovery process.
    • Maintains established program productivity requirements.
    • Determines the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria.
    • Assesses clients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tool and diagnoses clients for substance use disorder using the DSM-5.
    • Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients.
    • Develops a client discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.
  • All Regulations:
    • Assessing the counseling needs of clients.
    • Assessing clients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tool and diagnosing clients for substance use disorder using the DSM-5.
    • Determining the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria.
    • Obtaining previous records relevant to the current treatment episode.
    • Collaborating with clients to develop a written treatment plan that includes goals and measurable objectives, and is client-centered and recovery-oriented.
    • Providing substance abuse counseling services specified in the client treatment plan.
    • Reviewing clients throughout the treatment episode according to the ASAM Criteria to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer.
    • Reviewing and revising the client treatment plan to address ongoing problems.
    • Developing a client discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.
    • Contacting, case consulting, and coordinating with referral sources, including mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, and DCPP.
    • Participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients.
    • Providing active case consultation.
    • Documenting all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals, and follow-up in the client's clinical record and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records.
    Requirements:
    • A Master's degree in human behavioral science, such as social work, psychology, sociology, guidance and counseling, substance use certification, substance use education, and child development.
    • A minimum of two years' experience providing substance abuse and/or mental health treatment to adolescents and one year supervisory experience.
    • Medical clearance and fingerprinting required.
    • New Jersey Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LCADC) certification and a valid driver's license.
