Job Summary

Novanta is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the development of high-quality, high-precision lasers and optical systems. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will work closely with Laser Scientists and RF Engineers to design and develop CO2 lasers and laser components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop new CO2 lasers that meet market requirements for high quality and reliability.
  • Design and conduct research to apply principles of heat transfer, solid mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials engineering to the development of lasers.
  • Take leadership roles within project development teams and lead general projects or product development projects.
  • Create and modify drawings using Solid Works and coordinate BOMs.
  • Have a thorough understanding of manufacturing fabrication processes and quality systems.
  • Ensure system and product quality and reliability by using knowledge of mechanical testing methods and developing custom testing methods and analysis.
  • Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing design and testing information and trends.
  • Participate and provide feedback in Design Reviews during the Product Development Process.
  • Collaborate with Project Management and R&D Leadership in the development of project scope, schedule, and budget estimates.
Requirements
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Master's degree a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fast-paced industrial, market-driven environments.
  • 2 years of experience in high-precision mechanical devices and/or design of cooling solutions for high-power electronics.
  • Experience with Solid Works, Finite Element Analysis, and flow simulation.
  • Knowledge of all forms of metal fabrication, processing, and materials, particularly aluminum.
  • Knowledgeable about manufacturing processes and methods, including flow, layout, assembly, and production equipment.
  • Ability to lead complex troubleshooting and experience with 8D Problem Solving.
  • Experience with DFx, DFMEA, and PFMEA development.

Novanta offers a competitive compensation package, including a base pay range of $86,949 to $114,507, depending on the geographic market. Additionally, annual bonuses and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of the compensation package.
