Job Overview

The primary role of the Sommelier involves various responsibilities that contribute to the success of the beverage program within the establishment. This includes, but is not limited to, the effective selling of wines on the restaurant floor, upholding the restaurant's standards, assisting front-of-house staff as needed, and collaborating with the Wine Director to ensure a premier beverage selection.


Key Responsibilities
  • Engage customers with wine and beverage sales during service.
  • Adhere to established service protocols.
  • Conduct monthly inventory assessments of beverages.
  • Inform the Wine Director of any unexpected menu alterations and unavailable items.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all food and beverage offerings.
  • Effectively relay any wine updates to the team.
  • Ensure accuracy in wine documentation.
  • Keep the wine cellar and storage areas organized and clean.
  • Commit to ongoing education regarding the wine list.
  • Assist in the upkeep of the physical wine catalog.
  • Set up and dismantle wine service stations.
  • Stay informed about current trends and changes in the wine industry.
  • Identify and address opportunities for improvement in the wine selection.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the dining area.
  • Prioritize wine and beverage service without compromising overall service flow.
  • Provide training to staff as necessary.
  • Fulfill server duties as required.
  • Support any additional needs on the restaurant floor.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of beverages.
  • Flexible availability, with a minimum of four dinner service shifts required.
  • A passion for food and beverage, coupled with a willingness to learn.
  • An openness to new concepts and a dynamic work environment.
  • Certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers or equivalent experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to see, hear, speak, reach, and frequently lift up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. The role involves sitting, standing, and moving intermittently for 4 to 8 hours, along with bending as needed. These physical demands can be met with or without reasonable accommodations. Duties may evolve over time.
