Job Summary:

As a key member of the State University of New York Upstate Medical University team, the Associate Director of Facilities and Engineering plays a critical role in providing in-house engineering expertise to support the university's facilities and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of the Engineering department to coordinate engineering efforts campus-wide, ensuring seamless integration with other departments.
  • Training and development of junior personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge in MEP Systems (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Energy).
  • Development of processes and standards to improve efficiency and effectiveness in engineering operations.
  • Providing strategic planning and recommendations to administration and the Design and Construction Department to inform decision-making.
  • Signing and stamping drawings as needed, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Coordinating engineering support for new and renovation projects, including design reviews, construction phase reviews, and periodic site observations.
  • Developing design standards, preferred makes/models, and standardizing control sequences to improve system performance and efficiency.
  • Improving documentation of existing systems and equipment, and developing process improvements to enhance overall operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, with at least five years of relevant experience in design, design management, and/or project management of MEP building systems.
  • NYS (or eligible) Professional Engineer's license required by the time of appointment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare engineering, management of a design/engineering group, and familiarity with relevant regulations, such as Department of Health (DOH), DNV, Facilities Guidelines (FGI), NYS Building Codes, NYS Code Enforcement Officer, and NFPA standards.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
