Job Summary

Florida International University is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic II to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of our campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled maintenance tasks to complete repair work, pressure cleaning, painting, and general maintenance work for the upkeep of campus lots and garages.
  • Install and maintain bumper blocks, county curbs, pavement markings, traffic signs, and informational signs in parking lots, garages, and roadways.
  • Inspect and repair surface lots areas and roadways, including asphalt, county curbs, bumper blocks, curbing, and signage.
  • Operate special equipment such as backhoes and forklifts, and special tools during projects such as graveling lots.
  • Assist with event operations, including setup and breakdown of equipment.
  • Perform essential duties in any emergencies, such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing.
Requirements
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for mechanical trades or a high school diploma and three (3) years of appropriate experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's Class E license.
Working Conditions
  • Operating University Vehicles (all types).
  • Must carry/lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work requires some physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes, or equipment.
  • Lifting, carrying, or pushing/pulling.
