Job Summary

Florida International University is seeking a skilled Locksmith II to join our team. As a Locksmith II, you will be responsible for performing maintenance, modification, and repairs on electronic locking systems and devices, as well as mechanical locks throughout our campuses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist locksmiths in the maintenance and/or replacement of broken parts, exit devices, rods, and latches.
  • Provide assistance with troubleshooting and minor maintenance of electronic lock/access systems.
  • Cut keys on key cutting machines from original or manufacturer's code when original is not available.
  • Issue housing residential keys.
  • Answer telephones in the office unit and assist customers with key requests or turning in keys for credit.
  • File documents and maintain records pertaining to the key control unit.
  • Unlock various tools and/or equipment such as doors, padlocks, desks, and cabinets when assigned keys to University personnel are not available.
  • Assist the Housing-Facilities unit with repair work orders in reference to various trades activities such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.
  • Perform general emergency duties connected to any and all aspects of related work as required by the Housing Facilities supervisor.
Requirements
  • Two (2) years of experience as a locksmith or closely related experience.
  • Must be eligible to register as a licensed locksmith with Miami Dade County and obtain license within 3 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and/or knowledge of CBORD and/or electronic card systems.
