Job Summary

Florida International University is seeking a skilled Locksmith II to join our team. As a Locksmith II, you will be responsible for performing maintenance, modification, and repairs on electronic locking systems and devices, as well as mechanical locks throughout our campuses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electronic Locking Systems: Install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair locking devices and/or electronic building access systems.
  • Assist Locksmiths: Provide assistance to locksmiths in the maintenance and/or replacement of broken parts, exit devices, rods, and latches; card access programming via electronic devices throughout all housing residential halls.
  • Key Control: Issue housing residential keys, answer telephones in the office unit, assist customers with key requests or turning in keys for credit, and file documents and maintain records pertaining to the key control unit.
  • Emergency Duties: Perform general emergency duties connected to any and all aspects of related work, such as hurricane protection, barricading of ditches, roads, emergency lights, broken road signs, repairing leaks on a permanent or temporary basis, and other duties as required.
  • Collaboration: Assist the Housing-Facilities unit with repair work orders in reference to various trades activities, such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.
Requirements
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a locksmith or closely related experience. Completion of a certified locksmith trade school training may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Licensure: Must be eligible to register as a licensed locksmith with Miami Dade County and obtain a license within 3 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical Skills: Experience and/or knowledge of CBORD and/or electronic card systems.
