Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mission Critical Mechanical Engineer to join our team at SmithGroup JJR. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing HVAC systems and controls for mission critical facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis, design, and documentation of HVAC systems and controls for mission critical facilities.
  • Conduct system assessments and prepare technical reports to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, and contractor proposed change orders to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate the work of mechanical designers and junior staff assigned to the project.
  • Assist with construction site visits to observe system installation and answer contractor questions.
  • Develop planning and design concepts for projects, including presentation drawings and reports.
  • Mentor and train junior staff to ensure knowledge transfer and continuity.
  • Provide oversight of all aspects of mechanical design and the mechanical disciplines.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7 years of total experience with a minimum of 3-4 years of mission critical related technical design and consulting engineering experience designing HVAC for new and renovated healthcare, research lab, higher education, and/or mission critical/data center buildings.
  • PE License and LEED AP preferred.
  • Proficiency with Revit, Trane TRACE 700, Bluebeam, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with three-dimensional CFD modeling and analysis of data center airflow and cooling performance.
  • Experience designing and optimizing common mission critical/data center cooling technologies, including air and liquid cooling.
