Position Overview

Deliver fundamental law enforcement services to a designated area under the supervision of a Field Services Sergeant.

This role is classified as safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

$10,000 HIRING BONUS

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in maintaining public safety and order.
  • Engage with community members to foster positive relationships.
  • Participate in training and development programs.
  • Conduct patrols and respond to incidents as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by the time of graduation from the academy.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to obtain a New Mexico (Class D) driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Successful completion of the Police Entry-Level Written Examination and other assessments is mandatory.
  • No felony convictions; criminal history will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • No misdemeanor convictions within the last three years; minor traffic violations are excluded.
  • No DWI convictions within the last five years; multiple DWI offenses will disqualify an applicant.
  • Must not have any history of Domestic Violence Act convictions.
  • No illegal drug use in the last two years that would be classified as a misdemeanor, or in the last five years for felony classifications.
  • Financial accounts in collections must have documentation showing they are being resolved.
  • Any history of disciplinary action or termination may lead to disqualification.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must obtain a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months of hire.

Preferred Knowledge:
  • Understanding of law enforcement methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with report writing principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Skills in firearms and defensive tactics.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and safety practices.

Preferred Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to handle and maintain firearms properly.
  • Capability to interpret and apply laws and regulations effectively.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and take appropriate action.
  • Competence in identifying potential crime situations and taking preventive measures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
