Job Summary:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to fill the position of Clinical Surgical Pathology Fellow. This one-year non-ACGME certified fellowship provides a comprehensive educational experience designed to develop outstanding diagnostic and leadership skills in surgical pathology.
The fellow will work in a fully subspecialized, academic surgical pathology division that accessioned approximately 60,000 in-house and over 2,000 extramural surgical pathology cases annually. The division is staffed by 30 surgical pathologists representing all subspecialties, including renal, pediatric, and transplant pathology.
The division provides anatomic pathology services for the University of Wisconsin Hospital, the Middleton Memorial VA hospital, and the UW Health Outreach hospitals. Responsibilities:
The fellow will perform duties of an academic surgical pathologist, including diagnostic interpretation of H&E and ancillary diagnostic tests for both in-house cases and extramural consultations, participation in multidisciplinary conferences, frozen section and surgical pathology call coverage, gross room supervision, and at the microscope teaching of residents and medical students.
The fellow will be required to complete at least one quality improvement project, educational initiative, or research project with a subspecialty faculty mentor, with the expectation that this project will lead to conference presentation and publication.
Qualifications:
Graduate of a certified U.S. based pathology residency program. Board eligible or board certified in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology by The American Board of Pathology.
Appointment Type, Duration:
Terminal, 12-month appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
Salary:
Negotiable. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and sick leave; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits.
Additional Information:
The department will not be able to support a request for a J-1 waiver. If you chose to pursue a waiver and apply for our position, neither the UW nor UWMF will reimburse you for your legal or waiver fees.
