Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine invites applications for a one-year non-ACGME certified fellowship in General Surgical Pathology. This competitive program provides a comprehensive educational experience designed to develop outstanding diagnostic and leadership skills in surgical pathology.

The fellow will work in a fully subspecialized, academic surgical pathology division that accessioned approximately 60,000 in-house and over 2,000 extramural surgical pathology cases annually. The division is staffed by 30 surgical pathologists representing all subspecialties, including renal, pediatric, and transplant pathology.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform duties of an academic surgical pathologist, including diagnostic interpretation of H&E and ancillary diagnostic tests for both in-house cases and extramural consultations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, frozen section, and surgical pathology call coverage.
  • Supervise the gross room and teach residents and medical students at the microscope.
  • Complete at least one quality improvement project, educational initiative, or research project with a subspecialty faculty mentor.
  • Independently sign out 1-2 weeks on each of the core services with faculty backup.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of a certified U.S. based pathology residency program.
  • Unrestricted WI Medical License required by start date.
  • Board eligible or board certified in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology by The American Board of Pathology.
