A Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Technician is essential in emergency response and environmental safeguarding by managing and addressing incidents involving hazardous substances. This role necessitates:

A solid grasp of hazardous materials, appropriate handling protocols, and the capability to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies. Hazmat Technicians operate in diverse environments, including industrial sites, emergency response units, and environmental remediation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address hazardous materials spills, leaks, and situations proactively. Manage site(s) hazmat, chemical storage, and laboratory areas in accordance with established requirements. Ensure consistent operation following guidelines, stated requirements, and management approval.
  • Utilize advanced instruments, such as pH meters, mass spectrometers, and gas chromatographs, to detect, identify, and monitor hazardous materials.
  • Oversee both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, decontaminate equipment or tools, and manage chemical storage through inventory systems or best-known methods. Assist in and oversee waste disposal.
  • Evaluate malfunctioning hazmat systems and machinery, suggest corrective measures, and perform minor repairs or modifications.
  • Employ machine tools and hand tools to work with various materials, adhering to prescribed tolerances as directed.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of facilities and production processes, executing maintenance effectively by best-known methods, OEM practices, or general direction.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, production supervisors, or other stakeholders within the organization, and engage with external personnel when directed.
  • Respond to Emergency Response Team (ERT) events and evacuations to assist in troubleshooting and operations of facility systems (e.g., process piping, Hazmat, and lab systems).
  • Be available for emergency call-outs, responding to urgent requests for normal and out-of-hours operations across various situations.
  • Support life safety operations: fire systems, emergency lighting, chemical spills, and gas detection.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, ISO, and safety standards for Hazmat and chemical storage.
  • This is a full-time position that may require availability for some weekends and occasional holidays.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must fulfill all requirements to gain approval for working in specific ATS environments (if applicable), including a ten-year work history if available.
  • No prior experience is necessary, as on-the-job training will be provided.
  • No high school diploma, GED, or college degree is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in customer service.
  • One year of relevant work experience.
