Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Field Technician to join our team at the State of Montana. As a Field Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our wildlife management efforts, working closely with biologists and other stakeholders to collect and analyze data, and develop innovative solutions to complex conservation challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate field work schedules with biologists and other coworkers to collect scientific data associated with prioritized projects.
  • Enter, record, summarize, and manage survey data using standard software and existing databases.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of draft reports, and maintain familiarity with and provide maintenance of a variety of field equipment.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, and serve as a lead worker for day-to-day operations, providing leadership and training for co-workers and volunteers.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of two years of college work towards a Bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, fish and wildlife management, animal ecology, biology, or a closely related field.
  • Related work experience, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including private landowners, the public, and partner agencies.
  • A positive outlook and demeanor, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time, year-round position, with normal office hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. However, hours will vary and will include field work throughout the year. You will be required to work in a variety of environments, including office settings and remote field locations, and may be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions, including severe weather and extreme terrain.
