Job Summary:

Under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional, this role provides functional guidance to assigned staff, assists with endoscopic and sigmoidoscopic procedures, and analyzes collected specimens. The ideal candidate will have experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting, assisting with endoscopic procedures, and possess a strong understanding of medical terminology and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain patient specimens, perform venipuncture and skin punctures, and prepare samples for lab analysis.
  • Assist physicians and medical staff with procedures, diagnostic examinations, and treatments.
  • Analyze collected specimens for volume, acidity, and other standard measures.
  • Prepare and position patients for diagnostic tests and medical procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient condition during and after procedures.
  • Perform ear wash procedures, assist with gastroenterology procedures, and monitor I.V. solutions.
  • Prepare solutions and surgical tissue specimens, centrifuge or filter and separate specimens, and develop film and make prints.
  • Operate scope disinfector, pick up and deliver specimens to and from the laboratory, and assemble and disassemble equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure equipment is available for procedures and examinations, adjust equipment, and check emergency equipment.
  • Prepare procedures and exam rooms, select and set out appropriate tubings and sterile supplies, and maintain sterilized supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Decontaminate equipment, remove and inventory equipment and supplies after surgical procedures, and soak instruments.
  • Arrange for repair of equipment, inspect equipment and instruments for damage, and maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Perform minor adjustments and/or repairs on equipment, replace expendable parts on equipment, and test equipment.
  • Fill requests for equipment and supplies, maintain and order supplies, and dispose of used syringes and contaminated materials.
  • Inventory equipment and supplies, replenish supplies and equipment, and orient and train new or less experienced personnel.
  • Prepare department work schedules, provide functional direction to assigned staff, and attend conferences, meetings, and in-service training programs.
  • Serve as a resource person to co-workers, answer procedural questions, and assist in problem-solving.
  • Answer telephones and take messages, conduct in-service training, and assume other activities and responsibilities as directed.
Requirements:
  • One (1) year experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting assisting in the performance of endoscopic procedures.
  • Vocational Nurse License (California).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • I.V. Certification.
