POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for conducting tests on patient specimens, delivering accurate results to healthcare providers through the use of various clinical laboratory instruments. Maintains a comprehensive understanding of patient safety protocols and laboratory methodologies essential for ensuring patient confidentiality and safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates and maintains Clinical Laboratory equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and laboratory protocols. Analyzes results and communicates findings when results deviate from normal ranges or upon special request. Correctly identifies patient specimens and logs them into the Laboratory Information System using appropriate account identifiers and test codes. Handles and disposes of hazardous and biohazardous materials in compliance with laboratory policies and applicable State and Federal regulations. Conducts quality control measures to ensure testing accuracy prior to result dissemination. Provides phlebotomy services to patients as necessary during daytime hours.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Proficient in laboratory information systems, including but not limited to, order entry, inquiries, and specimen tracking.
Strong communication skills encompassing telephone etiquette, written correspondence, and verbal interactions.
Familiarity with OSHA regulations pertaining to hazardous chemical usage in the laboratory setting.
Understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:
ASCP Medical Laboratory Technician or AMT Medical Laboratory Technician certification required within the first year of employment.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a hospital laboratory setting is preferred.
