Role Overview:

The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist plays a crucial role in patient care by greeting and interviewing patients, their families, or representatives to collect and document essential demographic information for various diagnostic records. This position serves as the central communication hub for the Diagnostic Imaging department, efficiently managing incoming calls and requests. The specialist is responsible for accurately interpreting and entering physician orders into the hospital information system with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Warmly welcomes and directs patients, visitors, and staff arriving at the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
  • Conducts interviews with outpatients to gather relevant clinical history and selects the appropriate exams as ordered by physicians, ensuring accurate billing for all outpatient procedures.
  • Handles all incoming requisitions for emergency department and inpatient diagnostic imaging exams.
  • Processes requisitions for diagnostic centers and submits them for radiological evaluation.
  • Maintains comprehensive and accurate records of all diagnostic imaging examinations and reports.
  • Manages telephone inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality, directing calls or documenting messages accurately.
  • Ensures proper filing and upkeep of requisitions received through interoffice mail and fax for all diagnostic exams.
  • Photocopies confidential patient reports and films, and creates CDs upon request, ensuring proper identification and authorization.
  • Retrieves imaging films and reports from off-site facilities on a daily basis.
  • Effectively multitasks by answering phones, greeting patients, entering orders, and addressing inquiries.
  • Utilizes various office equipment, including PCs, fax machines, scanners, CD burners, and copiers.
Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience Requirements:
  • Preferred experience of three to twelve months in clerical roles or within a healthcare office environment.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
  • Proficient computer skills are essential.
