Ambulatory Nurse

The Massachusetts General Hospital Eating Disorders Collaborative Care Clinic (EDC3) is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our multidisciplinary team. As an Ambulatory Nurse, you will provide expert, specialized medical and psychiatric care for adolescents and adults with eating disorders. Your primary responsibilities will include providing proficient, compassionate patient-and-family-centered evidence-based nursing care, applying the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork, and collaboration. You will also be responsible for triaging new patient referrals, reviewing and following up on clinical messages and phone calls, and conducting nursing visits with patients as needed. Additionally, you will develop a database of resources for patients requiring outside care and assist patients in seeking these additional supports.
Key Responsibilities
• Provides proficient, compassionate patient-and-family-centered evidence-based nursing care applying the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork, and collaboration.
• Triages new patient referrals, reviews and follows up on clinical messages and phone calls, and conducts nursing visits with patients as needed.
• Develops a database of resources for patients requiring outside care and assists patients in seeking these additional supports.
• Collaborates with all members of the health care team to ensure coordination of care.
• Reviews and triages new referrals to the Eating Disorders Collaborative Care Clinic, communicates any urgent recommendations with referring providers and PCPs, and reviews treatment recommendations with patients and encourages appropriate follow-up care.
• Tracks and follows up with care team and patient on critical test results, assists with referrals to higher levels of care for further eating disorder treatment, and evaluates efficiency of care and interventions for patients.
• Communicates with members of the health care team-in-patient and/or in the community-to ensure continuity in care transitions, actively engaged in crafting a healthy, respectful work environment, and provides leadership in the practice to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective care.
• Identifies opportunities and solutions to ensure a safe, efficient, and cost-effective practice environment, demonstrates compliance with regulatory requirements, participates in quality and safety initiatives, generates innovative ideas to improve care delivery and workflow in the practice environment, and precepts and mentors new members of the team.
• Participates in departmental and organizational committees and initiatives, interprets hospital and departmental policies and procedures to nurses and other members of the health care team, maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing practice, adheres to departmental requirements for required training, identifies specific learning needs and goals, and collaborates with nursing leadership in developing a plan to meet them.
Requirements
• Computer literacy in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel preferred.
• BLS Certification.
• Knowledge of current eating disorder treatment guidelines, resources, and treatment programs preferred.
• Experience working with patients with eating disorders and other mental health disorders preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; new graduates must have a BSN degree.
• Previous experience in Ambulatory Medicine and/or Psychiatry nursing preferred.
• Experience working with patients with eating disorders preferred.
