Position Overview:
As a Lead Principal Scientist at Alcon, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our innovative efforts in eye care. Your expertise will guide the development of cutting-edge contact lens materials, saline packaging, and lens care solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert technical leadership in the development of contact lens (CL) and contact lens care (CLC) products.
- Initiate and propose innovative concepts to drive ideation projects.
- Represent the formulations team as a core member in project teams.
- Establish yourself as a world-class Subject Matter Expert (SME) in your specialized field.
Daily Activities:
- Develop new materials for contact lenses and optimize processes based on a comprehensive understanding of materials technology and lens production.
- Utilize your formulation and polymer expertise to design and conduct experiments that meet target lens specifications.
- Lead project execution in collaboration with project team leadership.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field (or high school + 15 years; Associate + 14 years; Master’s + 7 years; PhD + 6 years).
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD with over 12 years of experience in the ophthalmic or medical device sector is highly desirable.
- Background in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience applying engineering principles to projects (e.g., Design of Experiments and Statistical Process Control).
- Familiarity with hydrogel materials and contact lens care products is advantageous.
- Previous experience in managing small teams is preferred, along with strong mentorship and coaching skills.
