Job Summary

The University of Vermont Health Network is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Access Specialist to join our team. As a fundamental part of the patient experience, this role is a key contributor to the financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate scheduling, registration, insurance, and payer eligibility management activities to provide an exceptional customer service experience for patients, families, and visitors.
  • Navigate complex regulatory requirements while coordinating activities across multiple disparate information systems to support physician and hospital operations.
  • Deliver a caring message in a streamlined, transparent, and cohesive process, effectively managing patient financial engagement and facilitating all aspects of the access experience.
  • Function independently, resolve patient and operational issues, and effectively manage patient financial engagement.
Requirements
  • Associates degree or vocational training in a relevant area; a combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Requires a minimum of one year of experience in customer service, medical billing, coding, insurance, or authorization, management, scheduling, or work in a healthcare environment.
  • Prior experience with medical billing preferred.
  • Ability to diffuse angry customers and handle pressure with excellent verbal communication skills.
