About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Model-Based Systems Engineer to join our team at The MITRE Corporation. As a key member of our Systems Engineering team, you will work closely with mission specialists, engineers, and government stakeholders to tackle complex systems engineering challenges critical to national security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply model-based systems engineering concepts and approaches to real-world problems
  • Develop and assess intricate systems engineering challenges using industry-standard languages such as SysML/UML
  • Apply analytical approach to support difficult policy and capability decisions assessing areas as military utility, operational effectiveness, technical efficacy to achieve highest quality engineering solutions
  • Identify and articulate major uncertainties, along with associated risks and opportunities, devising strategies to mitigate and capitalize on them
  • Partner closely with the MITRE staff on how to apply MITRE's modeling expertise to a variety of challenges
  • Apply analytic rigor through prototyping, may involve some software development
  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner that can be understood by all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise
  • Become a technical Trusted Advisor with sponsors and a thought leader
  • Become familiar with and engage on MITRE innovation initiatives relevant to the sponsor needs in partnership with Department leadership
  • Work closely with USSTRATCOM, NC3 Enterprise Center (NEC), Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Center (JEC), Joint Staff (JS), Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD), Service and Component sponsors, and MITRE colleagues, supporting those sponsors, on shared problem sets
Requirements
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical degree with 2 years of related experience; or a Master's degree; with the experience and ability to immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability of obtaining & maintaining U.S. security clearance TS/SCI
  • Evidence of knowledge of principles, concepts, methods and tools for conducting model-based systems engineering
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the specific role, such as model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, and system-of-systems architecture
  • Knowledge of tools and methodologies commonly used in systems engineering, including SysML/UML, Cameo, MagicDraw, Magic Systems of Systems Architect, Tableau, Neo4J, and Rhapsody
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS and 5 years of related experience or MS with 3 years of related experience, or PhD in a STEM field
  • Active TS/SCI level security clearance
  • Have experience in using tools and techniques to do modeling, optimization, probability modeling, and simulation
  • Familiarity with DoD organization and missions, the role of the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, and Military Service Components, operational environments and threats
  • Familiarity with systems engineering standards and frameworks (e.g., ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288, DoDAF, UPDM)
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) acquisition and requirements processes
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in systems engineering, including digital engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications
  • Advanced proficiency in relevant programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply systems engineering principles to complex challenges
