About the Role

  • Develop and execute educational programs, lesson outlines, training schedules, and activities that align with established content and standards. This encompasses the organization and upkeep of the training environment, including classrooms, labs, and equipment.
  • Facilitate learning experiences to ensure participants meet defined educational objectives.
  • Instruct and oversee the acquisition of solar installation competencies, covering essential topics such as jobsite safety, electrical fundamentals, mounting systems, array configuration, conduit bending, customer relations, site assessments, commissioning, operations, and maintenance, as well as the proficient use of tools and equipment through practical demonstrations.
  • Instruct and enforce safety protocols for the operation and handling of tools and equipment, ensuring cleanliness in the training environment and construction sites through effective modeling.
  • Guide participants in addressing construction challenges that may arise on-site through practical demonstrations.
  • Provide hands-on training supervision for learners during customer installations.
  • Embody and promote GRID's commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
  • Establish, oversee, and maintain high standards for course assessments.
  • Assist in coordinating worksite activities and schedules in collaboration with the Workforce Development Manager.
  • Keep the Workforce Development Manager updated on learner performance issues.
  • Assess, document, and report on learner progress and skill development.
  • Submit required documentation promptly.
  • Ensure adherence to attendance and program policies by learners.
  • Support recruitment and job placement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Instructor and Workforce Development Manager, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain and enhance lab equipment.
  • Work closely with the regional Workforce Development Manager on program logistics, documentation, feedback, and enhancements.
  • Assist with solar installations, service calls, site evaluations, or design projects as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications for Success...
  • A minimum of three years of experience in solar installation or related construction fields.
  • Completion of IBT 200 training with GRID Alternatives or the ability to pass the capstone exam.
  • A passion for teaching basic residential installation techniques in classroom, lab, and customer site environments.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and a collaborative spirit.
  • A positive attitude, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a dedication to fostering a diverse solar workforce.
  • Proficient public speaking skills, capable of engaging groups for extended periods.
  • A proven record of safe work practices and the ability to demonstrate proper safety protocols for tools and equipment.
  • Excellent time management capabilities.
  • Ability to evaluate student skills and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks related to solar installation, including standing for long durations, bending, stooping, lifting up to 50lbs, and working at heights.
Preferred Qualifications...
  • Experience assisting individuals from diverse backgrounds in developing personal and professional skills, along with competency-based assessment experience.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • NABCEP PV Associate certification.
  • Basic carpentry skills.
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
  • Experience in people management.
  • Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish.
Work Environment...
This position may occasionally require travel for regional office visits and special projects. Availability for evening and weekend work may be necessary on rare occasions.

GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work-related travel and/or reimburse travel expenses for personal vehicle use. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with hourly pay based on experience within the range of $26-$32 per hour, in addition to the benefits outlined below. Benefits Include:
