About the Role

This is a full-time, non-exempt position at GRID Alternatives, a leading organization in the renewable energy sector. As a Solar Installation Trainer, you will play a crucial role in educating and training individuals in solar installation techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement comprehensive curriculum, lesson plans, and training calendars to ensure participants achieve learning outcomes.
  • Training Delivery: Deliver curriculum and teach solar installation skills, including job site safety, electricity basics, racking mounts, array layout, and customer service.
  • Supervision and Assessment: Supervise learners on customer installations, assess their skills, and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Lab Maintenance: Set up, supervise, and maintain high standards for the execution of course exams and lab equipment.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with the Workforce Development Manager, Assistant Instructor, and other team members to ensure seamless program logistics and documentation.
  • Recruitment and Placement: Assist in facilitating and leading recruitment and job placement activities to grow a diverse solar workforce.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting in solar installation, service calls, site assessments, or design projects.
Requirements
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in solar installation or related construction experience.
  • Training and Certification: Have successfully completed IBT 200 training with GRID Alternatives or be able to pass the capstone exam.
  • Teaching and Presentation Skills: Enjoy teaching basic residential installation techniques in class, lab, and customer site settings, and have the ability to present to a group for extended periods.
  • Physical Abilities: Possess a record of safe work practices and the ability to demonstrate proper safety procedures for using tools and equipment, as well as the physical ability to perform activities related to solar installation work.
  • Desirable Qualifications: 1 or more years of experience assisting individuals with diverse backgrounds, OSHA 10/30 certification, CPR/First Aid certification, NABCEP PV Associate certification, skills in basic carpentry, conflict resolution, and people management.
