Job Overview

The Marketing and Sales Strategy Manager at IEEE DataPort plays a crucial role in two main areas of focus:

1) Overseeing the execution and management of the marketing and communication strategy tailored for IEEE DataPort, targeting both the IEEE Community (including society members and IEEE members) and external markets; and,

2) Creating and delivering sales support for IEEE DataPort. This includes providing assistance for sales leads and managing the IEEE DataPort Ambassador program, which engages IEEE volunteers. The role involves equipping sales representatives and DataPort Ambassadors with essential knowledge and resources to effectively promote IEEE DataPort within their designated territories and to institutions seeking information about IEEE DataPort. Additionally, this may encompass the management of external sales resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the marketing and sales support strategies for IEEE DataPort; design and manage action plans and timelines to ensure successful implementation.
  • Identify and develop new marketing and sales channels for IEEE DataPort, which may include creating conference content packages, providing metrics for sales representatives, and developing resources for IEEE DataPort Ambassadors and advertising initiatives.
  • Formulate and implement a targeted communication and sales support strategy for both academia and industry to effectively convey the capabilities and advantages of IEEE DataPort.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with IEEE sales representatives, volunteers, and DataPort Ambassadors to ensure effective promotion of IEEE DataPort.
  • Oversee the timely distribution of marketing and sales support materials, including feature articles, social media posts, flyers, sales presentations, and instructional documentation.
  • Assist IEEE DataPort sales initiatives through communication with sales representatives and potential customers, distributing informational content as necessary.
  • Enhance the professional image and visibility of IEEE DataPort at key IEEE conferences, either through direct participation or by providing materials and knowledge to representatives attending these events.
  • Provide guidance and support to IEEE volunteers and DataPort Ambassadors in their marketing and communication efforts regarding IEEE DataPort.
  • Manage the marketing and sales support budget as required.
  • Track and analyze metrics related to specific marketing and sales support initiatives to assess their effectiveness.
  • Foster a collaborative working relationship with staff, sales representatives, and IEEE volunteers.
  • Travel to special events and conferences as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • While there are no formal supervisory responsibilities, collaboration with IEEE staff, sales representatives, and a diverse group of IEEE volunteers globally is essential. The ability to coordinate meetings, manage projects, and work effectively within a team is crucial for achieving results and meeting deadlines.

Education

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required, preferably in marketing, public relations, or business administration.
  • A Master's degree is not mandatory but is preferred, particularly with a focus on marketing or business development (e.g., MBA).

Work Experience

  • 4-7 years of experience is preferred, with a focus on 2-4 years in marketing and sales support.

Skills and Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, project management capabilities, negotiation skills, proficiency in teleconferencing, and computer skills are essential. A strong work ethic, exceptional interpersonal skills, and organizational abilities are also required. Some travel and public speaking may be necessary.
