Job Overview

Position Summary: The Senior Estimator plays a crucial role in delivering precise estimating services across diverse market sectors and contract delivery methods. The primary objective is to generate reliable estimates that contribute to project success and ensure the company achieves its anticipated profits.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Estimate Development:
    • Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and client documentation.
    • Participate in pre-bid and project discussions.
    • Create comprehensive and conceptual estimates.
    • Conduct takeoffs for self-performed trades including Concrete, Masonry, Steel, Carpentry, Drywall, and Millwright work.
    • Employ tools such as OnCenter and Vico for BIM-based quantification.
    • Compile necessary documentation for deliverables.
  2. Project Collaboration:
    • Coordinate and manage both internal and external estimating resources.
    • Lead the preparation of all estimating and target value design initiatives.
    • Oversee bid solicitation, communication, proposal assessment, and bid evaluation.
    • Develop design alternatives based on cost, quality, or material availability.
    • Facilitate a seamless transition from estimation to project management.
  3. Risk Assessment:
    • Assist in identifying project risks and opportunities.
    • Integrate risk and opportunity evaluations into overall project costs.
    • Prepare Strategic Project Qualification (SPQ) for risk management.
  4. Communication and Presentation:
    • Deliver project estimates to clients and stakeholders.
    • Facilitate internal and external meetings as required.
  5. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Verify insurance prerequisites.
    • Upload estimates to the system and organize estimating files.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of labor rates, productivity metrics, and crew compositions.
  6. Mentorship:
    • Guide less experienced estimators to support their professional growth.
  7. Additional Responsibilities:
    • Undertake other duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent technical training/experience).
  • Experience:
    • 5-8 years of experience in estimating.
    • Expertise in estimating processes and related functions.
    • Experience in conceptual estimating and familiarity with building systems.
    • Understanding of construction coding (MasterFormat, Uniformat).
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in Excel and database software (WinEst).
    • Experience with take-off software (On-Center - On Screen Takeoff).
    • Familiarity with BIM tools such as REVIT and/or Vico is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional physical activity.
  • May involve lifting up to 15 pounds.
  • Potential for overtime and weekend work.
