Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Care Specialist to join our surgical team at UPMC. As a vital member of our operating room staff, you will provide direct care to patients undergoing surgery and assist surgeons and nurses in various medical procedures.

About the Role

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary of $65,000 per year, offering opportunities for professional growth and development in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons as scrub technicians during operations, maintaining aseptic technique and adhering to hospital policies and protocols.
  • Maintain proper traffic control in the operating room, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Count sponges, instruments, and needles accurately with the circulating nurse, reporting any discrepancies or concerns.
  • Prepare and set up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of operation, anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
  • Assist in the preparation and draping of patients and operative areas, ensuring optimal patient care and outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, adhering to HIPAA guidelines and confidentiality standards.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, with completion of a program sponsored by nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Technologist Surgery Certified (TSC) within six months of program completion.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting clearance, Act 33 and Act 34 clearances, and FBI Clearance with renewal.
